If you're looking for blogs about celebrities or blogs featuring pictures of fancy moustaches or cute cats, you've come to the wrong place. My intention is to create a blog of ideas, where you can come to stimulate your mind, learn something new, and have your preconceptions challenged. That is my goal, but only my readers will be able to determine whether or not I succeed. New ways of thinking, new conceptions of reality and slowly edging closer to the truth are the pursuits which entertain me and I hope to create a place where similarly constituted minds can take refuge amongst the muck of pop culture.
As to the title of the blog, I believe scientific progress, for the forseeable future, is at an end. Whatever new inventions science brings us will no longer lead to improvements in our lives (with the exception of an energy source to replace fossil fuels which won't really improve anything so much as make it sustainable). If we are to progress as a society, we must think more clearly about what exactly we mean by progress. We must, I believe, turn inside, and try to figure out how to make our lives better by becoming better people, by joining together and becoming a better society.
My interests are wide and I'll be covering a wide variety of topics on this blog, focusing mainly on ideas perpetuated by the media, including other blogs, which I believe are short-sighted, misleading, misguided or merely wrong. Going forward, I will try to post at least once a week. That said, there are certain topics I will be avoiding because I'm treating those topics in a longer form. My first novel, Conscience of The Machine, examines whether our actions are undertaken consciously or unconsciously, driven by fate or free will. My second novel, dealing with a wider swath of topics such as our notions of progress and personal responsibility, is in drafts. If you like this blog, the best thing you can do to support it is to purchase my novel, after which I hope you'll have a lot to talk and think about, give it good reviews and recommend it to friends.
